Some mountains have a feature you recognize instantly — and at Crystal Mountain, it’s hard to miss that iconic red gondola climbing above the snow.

Crystal Mountain is one of Washington’s most recognizable ski destinations, known for its dramatic Cascade scenery, its famous red gondola, and the incredible views waiting at the top. On a clear day, the mountain opens up to some truly spectacular scenery, including unforgettable views toward Mount Rainier.

Crystal Mountain is somewhere I’ve personally visited before bringing it home to draw. Staying true to my rule that if I haven’t been there, I don’t draw it, I wanted this piece to capture the things that make Crystal feel unmistakably like Crystal — the mountain, the snow-covered landscape, the red gondola, and that sense of arriving at the top and taking in the view.

The original artwork was created by hand on my iPad using my Apple Pen, with dozens of hours spent building the mountains, snow, trees, gondola, sky, and small details that give the scene its sense of place.

This Crystal Mountain artwork is available in both a skier version and a snowboarder version, so you can choose the one that best reflects how you experience the mountain.
