Franklin Falls is a favorite short hike for people who live around The Summit at Snoqualmie Pass, and it’s one of those places that feels completely different depending on the season. I’ve created two versions of this artwork — one in summer and one in winter — to capture both sides of this beautiful waterfall.

In winter, when the temperatures are just right, Franklin Falls can freeze into an incredible wall of ice. Seeing the waterfall seemingly suspended in time, surrounded by snow-covered evergreens and icy blue tones, is absolutely phenomenal.

In summer, the scene transforms completely. Water rushes over the falls, mist fills the air, and on sunny days you can sometimes catch little rainbows forming in the spray. It’s also a wonderful spot to stop for a picnic and enjoy the sound of the water and surrounding forest.

Like every place throughout my collection, Franklin Falls is somewhere I’ve personally experienced before bringing it home to draw.

The original artwork was created by hand on my iPad using my Apple Pen, with many hours spent building the waterfall, trees, rocks, water, and seasonal details one piece at a time.
