Second Beach is somewhere I’ve personally visited before bringing it home to draw. Reaching the beach means following a forested trail before suddenly emerging onto the rugged Pacific coastline, and it was that feeling of discovering such a spectacular place that I wanted to capture in this piece. The original artwork was created by hand on my iPad using my Apple Pen, with hours spent building the details, colors, coastline, and distinctive sea stacks.

For Twilight fans, this part of the Washington coast also has an extra little bit of magic. Second Beach sits just outside La Push, the real-life coastal community that became an important setting in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga and is closely connected with Jacob Black and the Quileute characters. While the movie’s famous La Push beach scenes were filmed elsewhere, visiting this coastline puts you right in the landscape that inspired the world of the books.
