A familiar stretch of Washington, reimagined in color.
Lake Keechelus sits along Interstate 90 on the eastern side of Snoqualmie Pass in Kittitas County, making it one of those landscapes many people recognize from drives across the Cascades. Surrounded by mountains and forest, the lake can look dramatically different depending on the season and water level, with exposed shoreline and old tree stumps creating an especially distinctive foreground.
I wanted this piece to capture that contrast — the rugged, almost otherworldly shoreline against the bright turquoise water, distant mountains, and soft pink and blue sky.
Like every place in my collection, Lake Keechelus is somewhere I’ve personally experienced before bringing it home to draw. The original artwork was created by hand on my iPad using my Apple Pen, with hours spent building the mountains, water, shoreline, tree stumps, and sky one detail at a time.
