Maple Pass Loop in North Cascades National Park is one of those places — a spectacular mix of alpine lakes, rugged mountain peaks, evergreen forests, open ridgelines, and changing seasonal color, all packed into one unforgettable Washington hike.

This is somewhere I’ve personally visited before bringing it home to draw. Staying true to my rule that if I haven’t been there, I don’t draw it, I wanted this piece to capture the feeling of looking out across the North Cascades from the trail — with the lake below, mountains stretching into the distance, and that enormous Washington sky overhead.

The original artwork was created by hand on my iPad using my Apple Pen, with dozens of hours spent building the landscape, trail, trees, lake, mountain layers, and dramatic cloud formations.
